Devious Journal Entry

Thu Sep 14, 2006, 12:40 PM
This area is pretty self-explanatory, really. I'm going to let everyone know just what contests can be featured, and how to get them so, and basically the point of dAContest in general.

As we all have done or seen in people's journals, there are contests at a steady pace being held throughout deviantArt. Be they coloring contests, contests to draw a certain person's character, to photography and even craft contests, these little get togethers are an indelible part of dA culture. There's only one shortcoming. Unless you're the type with obscenely numerous pageviews, and you have people regularly on your page, your contest might end up getting overlooked in the maze of them all. When I first started noticing this drawback, I wanted to start a place like this, to keep track, as best one person can, of the myriad of contests. Now, lucky for me, I didn't have to start said place, I was lucky enough to inherit it from someone who couldn't keep up with it anymore. So now I have a place where you can go if you're looking for any kind of contest.

~How to be featured: It's actually really easy. Note me here, and I'll post your contest for all the world (or at least dA) to see.

The info I'll need to post your contest:
*Usernames of those running the contest
*Theme of Contest, such as Photography, Literature, Fanart, Photomanip, so on
*Length of contest, start and end date if it can be provided
*Link to contest details, and permission to post said details where and how I see fit (which basically means I can tell people in this journal or in the forums about the contest)
*Anything else you think I might need in order to spread the word.

~What Kinds of contests will be featured: All of them. I mean, obviously nothing that violates deviantArt policy, but I've yet to see a contest that actually does that, so I doubt it'll be an issue. However, if your contest has a mature theme, or, in contrast, has a theme where mature art is absolutely disallowed, please let me know in your note, so that I might indicate that when I put it up. The point of dAcontest is, after all, to be a place where people can see a comprehensive list of contests and pick the ones that suit their tastes. So the better your description is, the more people will show up to enter!

One last note: This is for everyone. I don't care if you have 5 pageviews or 500,000. This is a place to get the word for ALL LEVELS of contests out to people.
***************************************************************

First off, we're going to have a new category :D Those watching have seen it in t heir boxes already, but for those who haven't, I'm going to add a category for art jams. They've been appearing in increasing number lately, and while they're not specifically contests, they are a great way to flex your arteest muscles, and there are all kinds to choose from.

Lots of people note me questions here at dAContest, so I thought I'd write a FAQ that explains some of the more oft asked stuff. ^^

Q: How do I post a contest?
A: How to be featured: It's actually really easy.

Q: How do I become a member?
A: Well, technically this is a memberless club. However, if you run contests often, I can watch you and keep an eye out for contests. You'll have to note me for me to do that though.

Q: You know, there are other contest clubs on dA. Why do we really need yet another?
A: Why not? The whole point of these contest clubs is to get exposure for the artist who is holding the contest. This club has contests that the others don't have, just as they have contests that I don't. However, there are some contests that all the clubs, or at least some have as well. This means more exposure for that contest. And that's the goal. I'm not in competition with these other clubs, I figure they're for the contest runner, so we all agree on the goal.

Q: Can I become a mod here?
A: Sure, if you're really interested, I can go for that ^^ just note me, and we'll work it out.

Q: When will you feature a contest for (insert genre here)?
A: When someone notes me to tell me they're running a contest

Q: I saw a contest on dA that isn't listed here, but I'm not running the contest. Can I submit it to you?
A: Yes and no. You can't submit the contest itself to me, because you might not know just what that person would want posted. However, you CAN note me and let me know about the contest, and I'll talk to the person running said contest and see if I can't post it here.

New Category: Art Jams

Thu Sep 14, 2006, 12:40 PM
From here on in, this is where I'll be placing the art jams I receive. I'm going to keep them all on one journal, but I will separate them according to category. For those who need to know, Art Jams aren't contests. They're just a bunch of people getting together to draw something or someone, such as a comic book character or something similar. Really they come in all mediums. Typically the person holding the jam will present all of the pictures in one piece after the jam is over.

is holding a gender bending art jam. it's where you take you favorite character and change their gender. Example: Inuyasha as a girl, or Midori as a guy.
